On Poetry

Why would I bother with poetry?
I mean, the act of writing it down?
I tried it the other day,
so what good did it do?

It felt generic,
to write in a way anyone could understand.
I felt no need to write it that way
because I felt no need to write it at all.

What is the point of poetry
if all I care about is the light in another person’s eyes?
